Jason spent eight years split between a large teaching hospital and a long-term acute care hospital. It was there he found his strength: diagnosis, critical thinking, and the ability to see how the body's systems and disease processes work together rather than in isolation.

Afterward, conducting annual health assessments for a large insurance company, he kept finding the same picture. Patients carrying ten or fifteen prescriptions, each one treating a side effect of the one before it, and nobody accountable for the whole. Just like Verde Valley Concierge Medicine, which he operated and was the sole provider for over 5 years, he built this practice to be accountable for the whole.

The name is the promise. We want patients to know that a breakthrough in their health is possible — through careful diagnosis, scientifically grounded treatment, and a clinician who will keep asking why after everyone else has stopped.

Breakthrough Functional Medicine offers primary care, complete preventative workups, and treats a wide range of complex, multi-system conditions.

Learn more about the approach

A diagnostician first

Before anything is treated, the question is what is actually going on. Fifteen years of being handed the cases nobody else could work out is unusual preparation for complex chronic illness.

Reading across systems

A hospitalist is handed a patient with six problems at once and has to work out which is driving the others. That is the same question a complex chronic case asks.

He never left medicine

He prescribes, orders and interprets advanced diagnostics, and manages and reduces complex medication regimens.

Medication review

Every prescription and supplement is looked at as one list — where each came from, what it is still doing, and what can safely come off.

Testing driven by history

Advanced labs are chosen from what your history actually suggests, rather than a standard panel run on everyone.

Unrushed appointments

Complicated patients do not get sorted out in fifteen minutes, and a case unexplained for years will not resolve in one visit.

“Most patients arrive with a stack of test results and no explanation. The work starts with finding out what is actually driving it.”

Step One

Gather

A full history, a review of every prior record and test, and a complete account of every medication and supplement you are currently taking.

Step Two

Test

Diagnostics chosen from what your history actually suggests, rather than a standard panel applied to everyone.

Step Three

Assess

The information from the first two steps is used to work out what is actually driving the symptoms — and which is driving the others.

Step Four

Plan

A plan built around what was found, with the medication list reviewed as part of the treatment rather than separately from it.

Step Five

Adjust

Results are tracked and the plan and medications are adjusted as the picture becomes clearer.
